There are 3 instances when a vehicle can and must be introduced on the E-natis system


1. De registered by Default. There are two types of de-registration namely de registration by default that is for example when a vehicle license is in arrears for years. The other one is by a de-registration instruction when a vehicle is stolen. In these circumstances the vehicle can be re-registered by following the following steps.You must have the original registration or de registration document

 a) Documents Needed:

  • Original registration or de registration document.

  • If  you are not the owner a proof of purchase

  • If registered in a business name a completed NCO form with a certified copy of the proxy ID.

  • Proof of your address

  • Certified copy of your ID

  • Completed RLV : Request of Licensing of a Vehicle

 b) Process to Register Vehicle.

  • Police Clearance

  • Weight Bridge

  • Road Worthy Certificate

  • Registration

  • Licensing    


2. Build-Up Vehicle.In these circumstances the vehicle can be re-registered by following the following steps.

 a) Documents Needed:

  • An affidavit confirming where the parts came from and what was done to the car (form SOA)

  • Original  de registration document if applicable

  • If you are not the owner a proof of purchase

  • If registered in a business name a completed NCO form with a certified copy of the proxy ID.

  • Proof of your address

  • Certified copy of your ID

  • Completed RLV : Request of Licensing of a Vehicle

 b) Process to Register Vehicle.

  • Police Clearance

  • Weight Bridge

  • Road Worthy Certificate

  • Registration

  • Licensing  


3. Imported Vehicle  

 When a vehicle is imported it is very important to make sure that you have the following documents:

 • Original registration document from the country of origin. Registered into importers name. If registration  papers are in a foreign language they must be officially translated into English.

 • Original Police Clearance ( Interpol) from the country of origin ( NB: If the vehicle is driven over the South  African Border make sure that a Police Clearance is issued at the border.

 • Import Duty Documents

 • SARS documents

 • Certified copy of owners ID

 • Proof of address

 • Proof of compliance with South African or equivalent, (EEC, ECE) or ADR Rules Regulations issued by

the original manufacturer of the vehicle.

 • All vehicles manufactured after 1 January 1997 must have 17 Character (VIN) or Chassis number.

 •  Proof of purchase/ ownership of the vehicle- Commercial Invoice and Bill of Lading/Air weigh bill.

 • Obtain a Letter of Authority from the SABS  

 • Obtain a RPI (Request for Police Introduction) from the local police

 Process:

 • Obtain necessary documents.

 • Obtain Police Clearance

 • Lodge application for registration
